Amazon has revolutionized online shopping and delivery tracking. With their own logistics network and partnerships with major carriers, understanding Amazon tracking can be confusing. Here's everything you need to know.
Understanding Amazon Tracking Numbers
Amazon uses different tracking number formats depending on who delivers your package:
Amazon Logistics (AMZL)
When Amazon delivers your package using their own drivers, you'll see a TBA tracking number (example: TBA123456789012). These packages are tracked primarily through the Amazon app and website.
Third-Party Carriers
Amazon also ships through:
- USPS: 22-digit tracking numbers starting with 94, 92, etc.
- UPS: 18-character numbers starting with 1Z
- FedEx: 12-22 digit numbers
TBA Tracking Tip
TBA numbers work best when tracked directly through Amazon. Our tool can also track Amazon Logistics packages for basic status updates.
Amazon Tracking Features
Live Map Tracking
For Amazon Logistics deliveries, you can often see a live map showing your delivery driver's location. This feature is available when your package is "Out for Delivery."
Photo on Delivery
Amazon drivers take a photo of your package after delivery. You can view this in your order details to see exactly where your package was left.
Delivery Notifications
Set up notifications in the Amazon app to receive alerts for:
- Package shipped
- Out for delivery
- Delivered
- Delivery exceptions
Common Amazon Tracking Issues
"Package May Be Lost"
If you see this message, wait until the expected delivery date passes. If your package doesn't arrive, contact Amazon customer service for a refund or replacement.
"Delivery Attempted"
This means the driver tried to deliver but couldn't. Check for any delivery notes in your account about why delivery wasn't completed.
Tracking Not Updating
Amazon tracking may not update in real-time. Allow a few hours for updates, especially during high-volume periods like Prime Day or holidays.
Amazon Delivery Options
Take control of your deliveries with these features:
- Amazon Day: Choose a specific day for all your deliveries
- Amazon Locker: Pick up packages at a secure locker location
- Amazon Key: In-garage or in-home delivery (requires compatible smart lock)
- Delivery Instructions: Add notes for drivers about where to leave packages
